“Art makes us look; it engages us. The reason we need and create art has to do with its ability to discover what we didn’t know we knew, or to see what we never noticed before, even when it was right in front of our noses. Artistic uses of images can make the ordinary seem extraordinary-breaking through common resistance, forcing us to consider knew ways of seeing or doing things” (Buirski and Haglund, 2009, p. 44).
Put simply, Art Therapy alongside counselling, and other forms of psychotherapy (particularly Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Internal Family Systems), can allow self-exploration and personal development. This process can help you reach new understandings of your experiences in order to make choices to increase your wellbeing.
Jacqui provides a creative, non-blaming, multimodal approach to her Psychotherapy work. She uses arts based processes to facilitate self expression, communication, self awareness and personal development. Representations and experiences are not interpreted. No artistic ability is necessary. It is through being together that we can make sense of our lived experience. As new understandings emerge we can find ways to develop, and live differently. Jacqui can provide therapeutic supports for NDIS participants (Plan or Self managed).
Jacqui will also work alongside other mental health practitioners to ensure a holistic approach to an individual's care and wellbeing.
